Question by Rachel D: whats the best exotic pet for someone that lives in arizona?
i love animals and i really want an exotic pet, something very few people have in my town. of course i would prefer a legal pet :]
i’ve looked at hedgehogs, skunks, opossums, crows, and other snakes and stuff. I know that some of those are illegal in arizona but im not sure. can someone suggest some legal [not too costly] exotic pets that may be right for me?

A reptile like a corn snake, ball python, leopard gecko, or bearded dragon would be good choices. They are all fairly inexpensive, legal, and easy to care for.
You can also consider getting a tortoise like a russian or sulcata. You could create an outdoor enclosure for it and keep it as a backyard pet when the temperature allows for it. It would be costly and require a lot of research to do correctly though.
I highly recommend a leopard gecko. They are legal, fun, easy to care for, and never, ever bite. I have one and she has lived 6 years now. They live to be about 25. You don’t need to buy much for them either. A small tank, water dish, half- coconut shell, and crickets will be all it needs. I love my leopard gecko!
